A yellow weather warning for snow and ice in place across parts of the South West as temperatures continue to drop. The Met Office warning is in place until 7am today (March 9) and the forecaster is urging the public to expect travel disruption.
The Met Office warns of difficult travel conditions, longer journey times on roads and railways, and possible injuries due to slips and falls. It comes after residents across the city of Bristol woke up to a blanket of snow yesterday (March 8).
The snow started falling in the middle of the night and by daybreak, the city was blanketed in a lovely-looking, albeit not particularly disruptive inch or so. And it created some idyllic scenes right across the region, with some of the city's most popular beauty spots covered in white, and the rooftops of the city like something - almost - from an Alpine chocolate box.
The forecast for the South West today says showery rain will continue through the day with heavier bursts at times. Any sleet or snow is set to turn to rain through the morning.
Below Bristol Live has put together an hour-by-hour forecast for the city today:
Heavy rain is forecast across the city from 6am-8am with a maximum daytime temperature of 11C. The rest of the day will see a mixture of light rain and showers with heavy rain forecast at 2pm and 4pm.
