Scots will be disappointed to hear that the country will endure more rain this weekend while parts of the UK enjoy scorching temperatures.
After a bout of turbulent conditions, the Met Office predicts staggering 30C temperatures for parts of central and southern England, with some areas meeting heatwave criteria through the weekend. Unfortunately, the same can ot be said for Scotland as the forecast paints a more "unsettled picture".
However, while conditions over Scotland will be clear today, weather fronts moving in from the Atlantic are to bring more rain to the northwest from tomorrow into next week.
Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist Steven Keates said: "More of a northwest/southeast split in the UK weather is developing from Friday and into the weekend. High pressure will begin to establish itself from the southeast, allowing a good deal of settled weather through the weekend, with temperatures likely building towards, or slightly exceeding, 30C in some spots.
“However, it’s a much more unsettled picture to the northwest through the weekend, with weather fronts pushing in from the Atlantic bringing more in the way of rain and some gusty coastal winds, especially for those in Scotland and Northern Ireland.”
Met Office weather maps indicate clear skies across Scotland on Thursday, with temperatures dropping slightly to highs of 16C. Moving to Friday, Atlantic weather fronts are set to reach Scotland by 10am, moving over the country all weekend.
Into next week, showers are to lighten by Monday but remain scattered, before becoming heavy once more on Tuesday.
Reports have also claimed a heatwave will return next month - and stronger than the previous one we saw in June. The Met Office's long-range forecast does anticipate "very warm or hot conditions probable at times" but it is too early to accurately predict temperatures.
