The Met Office has given an early prediction on the weather for next week’s long bank holiday weekend.
Scots will be treated to a four-day weekend from Thursday, June 2 as the UK celebrates the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
And while the news of the extra time off is welcome for Scots, weather forecasters have suggested that we could be on for a washout.
Met Office officials say that they are keeping an eye on a plume of warm air from over the near continent in the days leading up to next Thursday.
Experts say that this brings the potential for heavy rain in some parts of the country.
But the weather could become more settled and drier towards the end of bank holiday weekend.
Forecasters say that there is still “plenty of detail” to work out before making an absolutely certain prediction on the weather.
Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist Chris Bulmer said: “What we’re keeping an eye on for the latter part of [next] week is how far north this plume of warm air comes. This brings the potential for outbreaks of heavy rain in places.
"There’s still a lot to be determined for the Jubilee Weekend forecast.
“On balance, it looks like after a showery start, though still fine in places, high-pressure will attempt to build from the west bringing more settled and drier weather, at least for some.”
Much of Scotland is expected to remain dry this weekend - with a slight chance of rain ins some parts of the country.
Temperatures will reach the mid-teens on Saturday and could fall on Sunday, according to the latest Met Office forecast.
