Met Office forecasts UK snow as expert predicts 'big change' coming

The Met Office is predicting snow across lots of parts of the UK next week, including Leeds, after warnings about sudden drops in temperature.

The Met Office says temperatures next week will be in the low single figures during the day and by night, they will drop down to several degrees below freezing. In a TikTok on the Met Office account forecasters have predicted snow showers in the north and the east of the UK.

Arctic air that will first hit Scotland next week will bring sleet and snow to the area. It is then expected to move down south, with the cold air to affect most of the rest of the country, forecasters say.

During the TikTok, the Met Office forecaster says: "Temperatures so far this week have been close to average however it has felt cold in the wind off the North Sea.

"There has also been a lot of cloud and high pressure around an area off the North West of Scotland.

"However a big change is on the way, during the weekend the high pressure will migrate from northwest Scotland towards Iceland and Greenland, that will allow colder northerly winds to arrive.

"It is during Monday and Tuesday that the arctic air is likely to move south and affect most of the rest of the country.

"Early next week temperatures by day will be in the low single figures and in the night several degrees below freezing, there will also be some snow showers, especially in the north east."

The Met Office outlook for Leeds from Saturday to Monday says: "Cloud and showery rain moving south on Saturday. Turning colder and brighter with scattered showers on Sunday, wintry on hills. Further wintry showers on Monday. Overnight frosts. Rather cold throughout"

The forecast for March 6 to March 15 says there will be wintry showers across northern and eastern areas, turning to snow. In Leeds grey skies will continue as temperatures start to drop into minus figures.

The Met Office say: "This period is expected to be characterised by winds from the north bringing cold conditions to most areas.

"This will most likely result in wintry showers across northern and eastern areas, these turning to more organised bands of snow at times.

"Under this regime, many other areas are likely to remain dry with some sunshine, the best of this across inland areas and in the south and west of the UK.

"During the later part of the period confidence decreases significantly, however there is a risk of some milder and wetter weather pushing into the south from the Atlantic, meaning spells of rain will become more likely across the country.

"Temperatures overall will be below average but may gradually trend up through the period."
