Met Office issues weather warning as heavy rain and strong winds hit

The Met Office has issued a weather warning for Wales and parts of England, as we're set to be hit by strong winds and heavy rain. It is set to be a rainy and windy week for Wales, according to the Met Office. After what has been a pleasant few days over the Christmas period, with sunny intervals and mild temperatures, things are set to drastically change.

On Wednesday, the Met Office has issued a yellow warning for rain in the southern parts of Wales. Heavy rain may lead to some disruption, according to the forecaster, and will affect places such as Cardiff, Merthyr Tydfil, Bridgend and Swansea. The warning will be in place from 2am until 3pm on Wednesday, December 28.

Here's what the Met Office had to say about the rest of the week in Wales:

Wednesday, December 28:

"Outbreaks of rain moving north across all areas during the morning and staying generally wet during the afternoon with heavy rain over the hills. Becoming windy with possible gales later. Maximum temperature 12 °C."

Outlook for Thursday, December 29, to Saturday, December 31 :

Staying changeable and generally unsettled with periods of rain, heavy at times, interspersed by brighter and more showery spells. Generally mild but brief colder interludes too. Windy with gales possible.

UK long range weather forecast:

This is what we can expect between Saturday, December 31, and Monday, January 9. The weekend could bring showers or longer spells of rain for many, with the potential for some heavy bursts at times, according to the Met Office. They added: "These showers may be wintry over higher ground in the north. Some drier and brighter spells are also possible, but windy with gales in places.

"Temperatures near normal, but perhaps locally rather cold in the north whilst remaining mild in the south. Remaining changeable into the beginning of next week, with rain and showers most frequent in the west and northwest. Increased likelihood of longer dry periods as well, most likely towards the east and southeast. Any snowfall will be restricted to Scottish mountains. Mild in the south for the later part of the period, whilst the north sees a mixture of milder and colder spells."
