Met Office forecasts exact dates for when snow will hit UK

The Met Office has predicted the UK could have snow before Christmas.

According to forecasters, snow could fall nationwide, though probably only higher ground mainly, with "heavy showers and snow" possible in the coming days. Brits should be prepared for flurries of snow from December 6 to December 15.

The Met Office said: "There is reasonable confidence that temperatures will remain below average, and it looks like turning even colder from Wednesday. Showers will fall increasingly as snow in the north, even to lower levels at times with notable accumulations over the Scottish mountains."

They added: "There is a low risk in the far southwest, of a more prolonged spell of rain, which would turn to snow over the moors, but this is far from certain. The best of the clear or sunny spells looks most likely in the west, though this could lead to some hard night frosts.

"Snow and snow showers are expected at times across high-ground areas. Temperatures are likely to be below normal through the period, possibly feeling rather cold."

For the following week, the Met Office has predicted: " The north and east are most likely to hold on to colder conditions for longest. Any transition between the cold and mild conditions would bring a risk of rain, with sleet and snow especially over the hills."
