After guests arrived to the deep blue and daffodil strewn entrance of the Met Gala 2025, they were whisked up to a cocktail reception and snacked on “elevated soul food” (“think hoecakes with crispy chicken, mini chopped cheeses, cornbread topped with caviar, and curry chicken patties,” Vogue reported) before getting a first look at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s newest costume exhibit. For 2025, that is Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, based on Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book, Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity.
