Dubbed fashion's biggest night of the year, the Met Gala sees celebrities try their best to capture the essence of the theme and stun on the red carpet.
While Met Gala veterans Kim Kardashian and Rihanna are famed for making a statement when showing up at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, not all the star's on Anna Wintour's strict guestlist get it right.
The theme for this year's Met Gala centres around fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld. The exhibition, titled 'Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty', celebrates the late style icon's work at Balmain, Patou, Chloé, Fendi, Chanel, and his eponymous label.
Michaela Coel, Penélope Cruz, Roger Federer and Dua Lipa join Vogue editor Wintour as the evening’s official co-chairs, as 'Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty' showcases over 150 original looks from the late designer.
We take a look at some of the celebrities lucky enough to attend the event in New York City this evening who failed to follow the theme and pay homage to the late style icon, and the stars who took things to a new level with their daring ensembles.
Lil Nas X
The eccentric singer never fails to catch the eye and his latest ensemble did just that.
The full-body sparkle was created by makeup phenom Pat McGrath and designer house Dior Men.
Not one to miss up an opportunity to shine - quite literally Nas struck a number of flamboyant poses in his silver Dior thong, while his body was covered from head to toe in silver paint and gemstones.
Rihanna
Rihanna brought some drama of her own as she turned up fashionably - or just extremely - late. She opted for a floral white dress by Valentino.
The design featured a long, sweeping train and had a structured ivory top covered in roses. The main detail which bemused some fans however was her head garment as she wore a matching hood which completely engulfed her head.
The garish look was completed by fingerless gloves and a pair of white sunglasses with huge fake eyelashes attached and saw fans compare her to whipped cream.
Doja Cat
Doja Cat firmly lived up to her name as she went to the Met dressed as Karl Lagerfeld's feline friend Choupette.
The songstress, 27, chose a beautiful Oscar De La Renta outfit and bizarre cat face prosthetics to mark her maiden appearance at the bash.
The outfit itself was a shimmering design with a dramatic ruffled train and cat-like eyes, while her prosthetics gave her a cat-like nose, mouth and lifted up her eyes for the strange look.
If her look wasn't enough, she even MEOWED in her chat on the red carpet.
Jared Leto
Taking his creativity from a similar page to Doja Cat, Jared Leto paid tribute to famous feline Choupette.
However, unlike Doja, the star decided to bypass the fashion and just go full on cat mode.
While Choupette's social media accounts had revealed earlier in the day the animal wouldn't be in attendance, Jared took it upon himself to make sure a 6ft impersonation would.
The white furry suit brought gasps to those in attendance and it wasn't until he removed the blue-eyed cat head that people realised who it was.
He later changed into an all black outfit with matching fingerless gloves and a cape with diamond encrusted shoulder pads.
David Byrne
Fans were flummoxed when Davide Byrne rode his faithful bike onto the red carpet.
Dressed in an all-white suit and yellow trainers, the Strange Overtones musician went green for the environment as he used peddle power to get himself there.

He has often discussed his love of biking and previously said: "I ride my bike almost every day here in New York.
"It’s getting safer to do so, but I do have to be fairly alert when riding on the streets as opposed to riding on the Hudson River bike path or similar protected lanes.”
