A host of celebrities will be out in force for this year's Met Gala, with fans likely to be eagerly-awaiting the unconventional and dramatic outfits that are showcased tonight.
The annual event is considered 'the biggest night in fashion' and is hosted by Anna Wintour - who's served as the editor-in-chief of Vogue magazine for more than three decades.
The occasion - held each year at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City - is an opportunity for guests to showcase unique fashion choices, particularly on the red carpet.
There have been a number of bizarre outfits worn by celebrities at the Met Gala in recent years. We've taken a look back at just some examples ahead of this year's event.
Katy Perry (2019)
Katy Perry served not one but two unconventional looks when she attended the Met Gala back in 2019. She showcased one on the red carpet and the other inside the museum.
The singer arrived at the event wearing a chandelier-inspired outfit, which reportedly weighed 40 pounds. Katy's dramatic ensemble featured plenty of sparkle and glamour.
She later underwent an outfit change once she was inside the museum itself, where she dressed up as a cheeseburger. She wore a lettuce-like dress underneath a costume.
Kylie Jenner (2022)
Kylie Jenner chose to wear a white bridal gown for the Met Gala last year, with the outfit having divided fans at the time.
She paired the dress with a white baseball cap and a veil, which made for a unique ensemble on the red carpet at the the Metropolitan Museum of Art last year.
The word "OFF" was emblazoned across her chest which formed part of the mesh dress and it turned out the outfit was a tribute to Off-White founder and Louis Vuitton director Virgil Abloh, who passed away in November 2021.
Posting a tribute to him on Instagram, Kylie wrote: "Virgil and I were supposed to go to the Met together before it got postponed in 2020. To celebrate V tonight and his incredible legacy truly means the world to me.
"I'm humbled to wear this dress and honor my talented beautiful friend. We felt you tonight Virgil and love you forever."
Jared Leto (2019)
Jared Leto turned heads with his unexpected look at the Met Gala in 2019, which had seemingly been inspired by fashion from a previous runway show for Gucci.
The actor and singer graced the red carpet wearing a bedazzled scarlet gown by the fashion brand but it was the accessory that accompanied it that prompted attention.
He had opted to hold a replica of his own head whilst posing for photos at the annual event four years ago and he was also spotted with the prop at an after-party.
Emily Ratajkowski (2022)
Emily Ratajkowski attracted attention over her colourful outfit on the red carpet at the Met Gala last year. It was heavily beaded at the top and featured a structural skirt.
The model seemed to enjoy her unconventional attire for the fashion event, with her having commented at the time: "I feel very lucky to be wearing this look".
Some fans reportedly weren't impressed with the vintage Versace look though, which is said to have been previously worn by model Yasmeen Ghauri in a 1992 runway show.
Gigi Hadid (2022)
Gigi Hadid went hell for leather with an unexpected look for last year's fashion event. It included a burgundy corset, matching leather pants and a pair of knee high boots.
The outfit also included an oversized burgundy puffer coat which dragged along the floor behind the model as she swept up the stairs at the museum in New York.
The exaggerated look attracted attention at the time and prompted praise, with her even dubbed "the unofficial queen of the Met Gala" by one publication last year.
Kim Kardashian (2021)
Kim Kardashian baffled fans when she seemingly walked the red carpet in 2021 wearing what appeared to be a bodysuit that covered her entire body, including her face.
The unforgettable ensemble is said to have actually consisted of a mask that wrapped around her head, a tight mini-dress, leggings, long gloves and a pair of pointed boots.
The reality TV star later revealed to Vogue that she initially had "fought against" the designer's idea of concealing her face as part of the outfit, though she ended up doing so.
Nicki Minaj (2022)
Nicki Minaj is known for her outrageous outfits – but she revealed she actually suffered a wardrobe malfunction at last year's Met Gala.
The rapper turned up in a black feather gown which she paired with a leather baseball cap.
But as she walked the red carpet she kept tugging at her top, later revealing the Burberry creation had been made too small.
She shared: "The only unplanned thing about my look is that my boobs [are] popping out because they made my cup size a little small."
Cara Delevingne (2022)
Cara Delevingne dared to bare all last year as she whipped her jacket off on the red carpet. The model was covered in gold body paint underneath the red jacket.
The model told the crowd that "the nipple needs to be free" as she took off the suit jacket, which had accompanied a matching pair of pants and maroon stilettos.
Her body appeared to have been painted gold underneath the outfit and she opted to wear covers over her nipples as well as a a gold chain body harness.
