Another county has been added to Met Eireann’s status yellow rain and thunderstorm warning issued earlier on Monday.
Donegal now joins the 17 counties, including Leinster, Waterford, Tipperary, Leitrim, Cavan and Monaghan, which are currently being battered by heavy rain with potential thunderstorms throughout the day and night.
The warning was issued around 4pm on Monday and is valid until 10pm this evening.

The national forecaster issued the warning alongside a post that said: “Scattered heavy showers are expected, with thunderstorms and hail possible.”
It added that some of the possible impacts of the adverse weather could include, spot flooding, poor visibility and difficult travelling conditions.
It comes after Alan O’Reilly, of the popular Twitter forecast page Carlow Weather, posted following the initial alert this morning that further weather warnings would be on the way in the afternoon.
While the warnings are set to clear up later tonight, Met Eireann has forecast that Tuesday will begin “fairly dull” but moving into the afternoon any rain will stay put in Leinster and the rest of the country will see some “decent sunny spells”. However, some outbreaks of rain may be on the way later in the night.
The forecaster said regarding Tuesday’s weather: “A fairly dull start with scattered showers continuing. In the afternoon, the showers will become confined mainly to Leinster with some heavy downpours possible.
“Most areas will gradually brighten through the day with decent sunny spells later in the afternoon and evening, although further outbreaks of rain may push into western fringes by nightfall. Highest temperatures of 17C to 21C in light to moderate northwesterly breezes.”
Moving into the evening, the forecaster added that there will be “further outbreaks of showery rain that will spread across the country, most frequent in Ulster. Temperatures will fall to between 10C and 13C in light west to southwest breezes.”
