Storm Dudley is set to batter Ireland with flooding expected in coastal areas and damaging gusts.
Met Eireann have issued a nation-wide status yellow weather warning that is valid from noon today until midday on Thursday.
Two counties in Northern Ireland - Derry and Antrim - have been issued with the stronger amber weather warning.
The nation-wide yellow weather warning reads: "Westerly winds associated with Storm Dudley will reach mean speeds of 50 – 65km/h with damaging gusts of 80 – 110km/h, stronger on exposed coasts and on high ground.
"A combination of high tide and strong winds will lead to flooding on exposed coasts."
The National Crisis Management Team held a virtual meeting today with Met Eireann, emergency services, and local authorities in preparation for Storm Dudley and Storm Eunice which are expected to hit Ireland Wednesday and Friday.
They also issued the following tips to stay safe during the storm:
- Stay away from all coastal areas for the duration of the Met Éireann warnings.
- All road users should be aware of the potential for hazardous travelling conditions. Motorists should slow down and be aware of the dangers of fallen trees and debris. High sided vehicles, cyclists and motorcyclists are particularly vulnerable during this time.
- Keep mobile phone charged.
- It is critical that people never ever touch or approach fallen wires. Stay safe and stay clear of fallen or damaged electricity wires, and contact ESB Networks on 1800 372 999.
A spokesperson for the National Directorate for Fire and Emergency Management (NDFEM) Crisis Management Team said: "The NDFEM Crisis Management Team will continue to liaise with Met Éireann to monitor the evolving weather situation and intends to conduct further meetings of the group over the coming days."
