Although the freezing conditions that braced Ireland recently are now gone, Met Eireann’s forecast for the day ahead and into Tuesday has shown nothing but rain.
The overview from the national forecaster for both Monday and Tuesday shows that for the most part, Monday will be “cloudy and misty with hill and coastal fog”. While the widespread rain will begin in Ulster, with drizzle everywhere else, it is set to move into the country for the rest of the evening.

Today: According to the national forecaster, Monday will be "cloudy and misty with hill and coastal fog. During the morning there will be widespread rain in Ulster and scattered outbreaks of rain and drizzle elsewhere."
However, as the day progresses into the afternoon, the widespread rain in Ulster will clear northeastward. As this occurs, more rain will move in across the country from the west during the afternoon and evening, with occasional heavy falls. The highest temperatures for the day will be 11 to 15 degrees, in a moderate to fresh southerly breeze.
A wet night ahead moving into tonight with rain in both the north and east and scattered showers elsewhere. Some of these showers are expected to be heavy.
Although the rain will clear northwards overnight, the showers will continue countrywide and may develop into longer spells of rain at times in the south and east. The lowest temperatures for the night will be between six to nine degrees, with moderate to fresh south to southwest winds.
Tomorrow: Met Eireann has forecast that moving into Tuesday some scattered showers will continue, however, there will be some "sunny intervals". The rain will proceed to move into the west during the morning, later spreading across the rest of the country. Heavy falls in the south and west during the afternoon and evening are expected.
However, Tuesday is set to become quite windy later in the day as moderate south to southwest winds increases. These winds will be fresh to strong and gusty. The highest temperatures for the day remain between 10 to 13 degrees.
