March 2023 was the wettest in Ireland's recorded history according to Met Eireann.
In a statement released today they said in the 83 year history of records it was the wettest March they've recorded so far. It follows the fourth driest February in Irish weather history.
In the 31 days of March there was an average of 173.3 millimetres of rainfall throughout Ireland. The record broke the 2019 statistic when that March was recorded as the wettest.

The statistic is 169% of the 1981-2010 Long-Term Average. Met Eireann has said that more information will be available tomorrow in the March Climate Statement.
They said: "March 2023 is provisionally the wettest March on record in Ireland (record length 83 years) according to gridded data. This follows the 4th driest February on record last month. The previous wettest March was in 2019. More information tomorrow in the March Climate Statement."
