Met Eireann pinpoints arrival of grim conditions as Bank Holiday sunshine to continue for some

Met Eireann’s forecast will be welcomed by many festival-goers this weekend, as conditions are due to remain relatively pleasant in most areas.

Although some regions will see downpours ranging from light to heavy at times, the worst of weather changes won’t be seen until next week.

Current indications suggest that come Wednesday, we can expect the arrival of rain showers and breezy conditions - which could potentially last into the following weekend.

As for today, it has so far been dry in many areas with the best spells of sunshine in the midlands, north, and west.

There are cloudier conditions further south and east with showery outbreaks of rain over parts of Munster and the southern half of Leinster this afternoon - and some are due to be persistent and heavy at times.

Tonight, the rain will turn to scattered showers over the south of the country, but it will be generally drier with some clear spells elsewhere.

As the night progresses, these showers will migrate over much of Leinster and south Connacht towards morning bringing with them lowest temperatures of 7 to 11 degrees.

Similarly, Sunday will be dry, with the best sunny spells in Connacht and Ulster. However, it will be cloudy in Munster and Leinster with showery outbreaks of rain kicking off with highest temperatures of 13 to 18 degrees.

The general outlook for next week, according to the Irish forecaster is, “A mix of showers and sunny spells to start the week but it will turn more unsettled from Wednesday onwards with spells of rain and breezy conditions at times.”

Bank Holiday Monday will feature dry conditions overall with sunny spells and scattered showers, while highest temperatures range from 15 to 19 degrees.

It’s due to be coolest along eastern and southern coasts in a light easterly breeze.

These dry with clear spells will continue into the night but there will be some well scattered light showers as well.

Tuesday will be yet another pleasant day for many with sunny spells, and decent temperatures. A few showers will develop through the morning and afternoon in some counties and temperatures will range from 17 to 20 degrees.

The Irish forecaster has pinpointed Wednesday as the day where conditions begin to take a turn. It’s due to be a cloudy and wet day with rain spreading further eastwards to all areas early in the day.

Things will turn drier and brighter in the west for a time in the evening and highest temperatures will range from 15 to 19 degrees in moderate southeasterly winds.

Met Eireann then say “current indications suggest that it will remain unsettled for the end of the week with spells of rain, possibly turning heavy at times, and breezy conditions too.”
