Met Eireann issues wind warning as six counties face 'squally' snow showers amid Storm Gladys fears

A fresh weather warning has been issued by Met Eireann for six counties, as heavy rain, wind and snow are all forecast across the island.

It's the third weather warning to be issued by the forecaster in the last 24 hours, and affects Clare, Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo.

It's in place from 8am until 6pm on Thursday.

The wind warning reads: "Very strong and gusty west to northwest winds."

However, forecasters have added on social media: "Very strong and gusty west to northwest winds which may cause some hazardous driving conditions with squally wintry showers."

Earlier, a Status Yellow snow/ice warning for Donegal, Leitrim and Sligo from 10pm Wednesday until 10am Thursday.

While a wind warning is currently in effect for Donegal and Mayo.

If Storm Gladys is named by Met Eireann, it would follow Storms Dudley, Eunice and Franklin which all blasted Ireland last week. It was the first time three storms have been recorded in such quick succession since the naming system began.

Things will get "raw" over the next few days in terms of the weather, if the latest forecast is anything to go by.

But there is better news, because it does appear to be cleaning up before Friday.

Here's the latest from the boffins at Met Eireann.
