Met Eireann add another county to orange weather warning as Storm Danielle and Storm Earl circle

Met Éireann has added Kerry to the status orange weather warning as the south-west of the country is set to be battered in the next 48 hours.

Earlier on Saturday, the national forecaster issued the status orange rain warning for Cork and Waterford, urging people to be careful of persistent heavy rainfall with isolated thunderstorms.

That will cause disruption and localised flooding, they said, noting that the warning ran from 3am on Sunday to 3am on Monday.

Then, at 3pm, the boffins brought Kerry into the warning from 3am Sunday to 3pm Sunday

That's on top of a status yellow warning for rain for the entirety of the rest of the island, which runs for 24 hours on Sunday to Monday morning.

"A status orange weather warning is given before expected weather conditions that could significantly impact people, property and activity in an area. People in the affected areas should prepare appropriately now for the anticipated conditions." Met Éireann say.

The current forecast for Sunday reads: "Rain will extend nationwide on Sunday, turning heavy and persistent in places. Isolated thundery downpours are possible along with the potential for localised flooding. Humid and breezy on Sunday with highest temperatures of 17 to 20C"

Monday will start with "patchy rain and drizzle which will become largely confined to the southeast of the country with sunny spells developing elsewhere. Top temperatures will range from a rather fresh 15 or 16C in the north to 20 or 21C in the south."

At the moment, Storm Danielle and Storm Earl are swirling in the Atlantic, with some risk that they could affect Ireland.
