Lionel Messi shook up the football world Wednesday with news that he’d be bringing his talent to the U.S. and joining Inter Miami of the MLS.
One of the world’s biggest and best sports stars, Messi easily ranks as the top signing in the history of Major League Soccer and the effect of his move is already being felt on social media.
In the first 24 hours after the news broke, Inter Miami added more than four million followers on Instagram, leaping from one million to more than five million in just a day, according to Front Office Sports.
The club now has more followers than any NFL, MLB, NHL or MLS club.
Miami’s Twitter following also saw a large increase, according to PFF FC, jumping from 176,000 to more than 400,000.
Messi doesn’t even have a contract yet!
