Argentinian President Javier Milei has shown support for soccer star Lionel Messi and his family following a recent incident where their mansion in Ibiza was vandalized by climate change activists. The vandals broke into Messi's €11m property on the Spanish island, covering the walls with red and black paint and holding a banner that read: 'Help the planet. Eat the rich. Abolish the police.'
Milei condemned the act, calling it cowardly and delusional. He urged the Spanish government to ensure the safety of Argentine citizens residing in Spain. The president criticized communism, labeling it as an ideology driven by envy, hatred, and resentment towards the successful.
Messi, who acquired the exclusive home in 2022 after leaving Barcelona, was not present during the incident. The activists claimed the vandalism was a form of non-violent civil disobedience to hold the wealthy accountable for the climate crisis and to highlight the Spanish government's alleged inaction.
The activists also alleged that Messi's mansion was constructed illegally. The soccer star, currently recovering from an ankle injury sustained during the Copa América, has used the property for vacations on the island.
