A new campaign to help children deal with fears over climate change is asking youngsters to design a message on a bottle to convey their concerns. Recent research has revealed that 21 per cent of parents don’t feel confident educating their children on sustainability matters and with more than half stating that children and young people are increasingly distressed.
Sustainable milk delivery operator Modern Milkman has launched a nationwide competition inspired by Ferne, four-year-old daughter of founder Simon Mellin, to design the brand’s next reusable bottles. Simon said: “We founded Modern Milkman on the basis that being sustainable should be convenient – our main aim is to make it simple for people to reduce their waste, and to ultimately help the environment.
"Our research has found that 70 per cent of Brits want to do their bit to help the planet, but find the conflicting information regarding simple acts such as recycling confusing. The message in a bottle campaign encourages children to design their own artwork, using this as an opportunity to express their feelings on climate change and helping them feel empowered to do something about it – sending a message to their parents and future generations - literally on a bottle.”
