Mesmerising footage shows Royal cavalry regiment galloping on East Lothian beach

Beach goers in East Lothian were wowed as dozens of horses and their riders blew off some steam by galloping along the sands of Yellowcraig.

East Lothian Council shared footage of the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment as they relaxed by allowing the horses a jaunt on the picturesque beach.

The regiment were in Scotland to take part in a procession that saw King Charles III presented with the Honours of Scotland in Edinburgh on Wednesday July 5.

Sharing the video on their Twitter channel, they said: “Riders and horses of the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment enjoyed some downtime this morning at Yellowcraig after recent ceremonial duties in Edinburgh and before returning to their home barracks in London.”

Dog walkers, photographers and families looked on in amazement as the cavalry travelled along the broken waves as they rolled along the coastline.

According to the Household Cavalry website, they are made up of the two most senior regiments in the British Army: The Life Guards and The Blues & Royals.

They are divided into the Household Cavalry Regiment and the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment.

Since 1660, the soldiers of Household Cavalry have acted as the monarch’s trusted guardians, as well as being the public face of the British Army both at home and abroad.

The Cavalry’s role is mostly ceremonial with the horses and troops performing at the Coronation amongst other Royal events.

It is understood that they will return home to London on Monday July 10 after spending time in the capital and East Lothian.
