A driver has been arrested after a pedestrian died following a car collision in south-west London.
Police rushed to Worple Road in Merton at 1.45am on Friday following reports that a Mercedes CLA had hit a pedestrian.
Despite the best efforts of emergency services, a 37-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Mercedes was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, failing to provide a specimen when required and driving under the influence of drink or drugs. He has been taken into custody.
Detectives from the Met’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) are investigating the incident.
They are keen to hear from any witnesses who saw the collision, or captured it on CCTV or dash camera.
