Merseyside nurses sanctioned by medical council

A pair of Merseyside based nurses have been sanctioned by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).

Hearing records made publicly available by the NMC have confirmed that Lyndsey Humphries, a registered children’s nurse in the greater Liverpool area, and Lynne Chambers, a Wirral based healthcare professional, were subject to separate conduct hearings last month.

Documents from the NMC said on September 7, an initial sanction of 12 months suspension handed down to Ms Humphries was overturned despite officials finding her fitness to practice was impaired. A three-year conditions of practice order was imposed, which will control where and how she can work.

The reasons for the imposition were redacted in the documents made public by the NMC. It said Ms Humphries attended the hearing but did not have legal representation.

It said: “The panel determined to make a conditions of practice order for a period of three years, which will come into effect on the expiry of the current order, namely at the end of 28 September 2022. It decided to impose the following conditions which it considered are appropriate and proportionate in this case.”

Before the end of the period of the order, a panel will hold a review hearing to see how well Ms Humphries has complied with the order. At the review hearing the panel may revoke the order or any condition of it, it may confirm the order or vary any condition of it, or it may replace the order for another order.

In the case of Mrs Chambers, a three person disciplinary panel imposed an interim suspension order in her absence. A reviewing panel will review the interim suspension order at an administrative meeting within the next six months.

Initially, like Ms Humphries, a conditions of practice order had been imposed. The hearing took place on September 9.

The panel will be invited by the NMC to confirm the interim suspension order at this meeting and Mrs Chambers’ will be notified of that panel’s decision in writing following that meeting. At any time, Mrs Chambers or the NMC may ask for the interim order to be reviewed by a panel if any relevant new information becomes available.

The NMC will write to Mrs Chambers when the case is ready for the next stage of the fitness to practise process.
