Breakfast burgers are delicious and filling when done right, but some places seem to struggle to get every element spot on.
A family fun café in Wirral is serving the tastiest breakfast burger I’ve ever had. The Blue Bicycle in Neston has a rustic country vibe and is clearly popular, as when I visited on a Wednesday morning, there were many people tucking into breakfast or waiting for their takeaway coffee.
The trendy decor is complemented with a variety of different wooden tables and chairs, and I particularly liked how the café’s name is represented throughout - a blue bicycle in the window and bike wheels entwined with flowers on the walls. Relaxing mellow music was playing in the background, while fairy lights lit up the back of the café.

The staff greeted us warmly and, after seating us on a cosy table for two at the back of the café, took our drinks order before giving us time to peruse the menu. We opted for a glass of orange juice (£1.95) and a flat white (£2.85) each. I have to say, the flat white was the nicest I’ve ever had - hot and creamy but with a strong hit of coffee.
The Blue Bicycle offers a variety of breakfasts, including full English, pancakes, waffles, crumpets, granola bowls and more. As scrumptious as they all sound, it was the breakfast burger (£8.25) and veggie & vegan full English (£9.95) that caught our eye.
My breakfast burger was a soft brioche bun filled with sausage, bacon, hash brown and a fried egg, and oh boy did it impress me. Every element was cooked just how I like it. The bacon and hash brown were crispy, the yolk of the fried egg was runny, and the sausage was full of flavour. You could tell the ingredients were of a high quality, and they were all still hot when served to me.
Usually I’d expect a breakfast burger to be a soft white bap, so having a brioche bun was a welcomed change. I’ll be opting for a brioche bun wherever possible with my breakfast burger from now on, as the slight sweetness of the bread complimented the filling beautifully.
The breakfast burger doesn’t come with baked beans, but as I was craving them, I asked if it would be possible to have some on the side. The waitress was very accommodating and added a pot to my plate for £1. The burger was so filling and tasty, though, that I could have gone without the beans!
The Blue Bicycle’s breakfast burger is without a doubt the tastiest I’ve ever had - I’d happily eat it every day if I could. The food and atmosphere was on point and is exactly what you want when treating yourself to breakfast or brunch out. The Blue Bicycle is at 10, The Cross, Neston, CH64 9UB.
