- Hundreds of protestors, many dressed as ants, gathered in Menorca last weekend to demonstrate against overtourism on the island.
- The We Are Fed Up campaign, organised by GOB Menorca, saw around 1,200 people rally outside the Menorca Island Council building on 13 June.
- The protest aimed to highlight issues such as the housing crisis, water management, the labour model, and overcrowding caused by the significant increase in tourism.
- Organisers stated that the island's tourist numbers have risen by nearly 80 per cent in 15 years, leading to concerns about gentrification and the rising cost of living for residents.
- Proposals presented to the Island Council included limiting tourist car entry, banning tourist rentals in towns, and implementing progressive water tariffs.
