“Men shouldn’t be allowed to stay in maternity wards overnight - women don’t need strangers there”

After giving birth women can feel a range of emotions from exhaustion to pure fear, which is why many like to have their partners by their sides throughout their hospital stay.

But one woman has sparked debate by demanding that dads don't stay overnight on the maternity ward. Taking to Mumsnet she posted: "Unless you book and pay for a private room, overnights are for mums and their babies only. No recovering woman should have to handle overnights with upwards of 4 stranger men sitting in chairs in close proximity to their bed.

"Dad's there to care for the woman and baby is unacceptable - not their job. Not at the expense of the other women wanting privacy overnight."
