Memories to last a lifetime as Perth Grammar School enjoy cup final trophy triumph

Young school footballers created memories to last a lifetime on Tuesday night.

Talented pupils from Perth Grammar and Perth High were cheered on by more than 200 supporters at the Riverside Stadium, home of Jeanfield Swifts.

The occasion was the Perth and Kinross U13 Jubilee Cup final with fans treated to an entertaining evening spectacle of skill and sportsmanship.

Come full-time, Perth Grammar were the ones dancing with the trophy after securing a 3-0 triumph thanks to goals from Ben McAllister, James McKenzie and Lucas Gray, the latter who was named man of the match.

Aaron Anderson, principal teacher of health and wellbeing at Perth Grammar, hailed a special night of football and camaraderie.

“There had been a real buzz around the school in preparation for the game,” he explained to the Perthshire Advertiser.

“I’m so happy for the boys because they worked really, really hard.

“We spoke about making sure they came off the pitch with no regrets. I think they did that.”

Aaron was quick to turn the spotlight in the direction of hosts Jeanfield Swifts and, in particular, their community liaison officer David Reid.

He said: “There was over 200 people at the game so they were playing in front of friends, parents and teachers.

“I need to give David at Jeanfield Swifts credit as there was names read out over the tannoy and music too.

“The boys will always remember this big event. I’m just glad it was a positive experience for them.

“It builds memories for them that they will now cherish forever.”

The buzz of the trophy triumph is sure to stick around for a while yet.

“The kids were quickly wanting to see the goals they scored,” Aaron smiled. “The excitement continued.”

And he added: “We’ve started a partnership in the community with Jeanfield Swifts to get football going again. It is becoming more prominent, not just in the curriculum, but also in the community.”
