Tiger Woods called President Trump after his March 27 rollover crash near the golfer’s home in Jupiter Island, Florida, according to body cam footage taken at the scene.
Days later, Megyn Kelly offered her theory on why Woods called the president, but a personal connection between Woods and Trump could explain the motivation.
Kelly noted on her show,
He called President Trump as soon as he rolled the car and got out of it, and the cops were like, there, which is a d—e move, I think. It’s very clear he called to try to get out of this somehow.”

Kelly added, “I’m going to go with Tiger called [the president] and asked for some help because he knew this was going to be a PR disaster and potentially a legal one.”

Kelly, and comments as her remarks spread online, also noted that Woods has a personal connection to Trump, which might explain the content of the call.
Woods is in a romantic relationship with Vanessa Trump, the ex‑wife of Donald Trump Jr. Vanessa Trump and Don Jr. share five children, including Kai Trump, all of whom are Trump’s grandchildren.
One comment said,
I think he called President Trump because he’s dating the mother of his Grandkids and wanted the President to hear what happened from him. He got arrested. I don’t see any special treatment.”

Meanwhile, the day before Woods’ wreck, Trump commented publicly that Woods would not be playing in the upcoming Masters Tournament at Augusta National Golf Club. During an appearance on FOX News’ The Five, Trump said, “I love Tiger, but he won’t be there. He will be there, but he won’t be playing in it,” referring to Woods’ status for the 2026 Masters, information Trump was not supposed to publicly disclose at that time.
On her show, Kelly speculated that it could be possible that the president happened to call Woods to apologize at precisely the time he crashed his car.
Woods’ rollover fallout
Reports say Woods suffered significant physical injury in the rollover, and no one else was hurt. Authorities noted signs of impairment during a roadside sobriety evaluation, though a breathalyzer showed no alcohol in his system. Woods refused a urine test, which under Florida law can lead to prosecution, and he was arrested on suspicion of DUI with property damage.
Woods was released on bail after spending the required hours in jail. He pleaded not guilty to the DUI charges and has requested a jury trial, with upcoming court proceedings scheduled.
The arrest affidavit and bodycam footage indicate he told deputies he had been looking at his phone and adjusting the radio moments before the crash, and admitted taking prescription pain medication earlier that day.
In the wake of the incident, Woods — who has faced multiple serious injuries throughout his career — announced he is stepping away from competitive golf indefinitely to focus on his health and seek treatment, withdrawing from the 2026 Masters and other roles such as the 2027 U.S. Ryder Cup captaincy.
A Florida judge recently granted a motion allowing Woods to leave the country to seek “comprehensive inpatient treatment” at an undisclosed international facility, citing a need for privacy that his legal team argues is impossible in the U.S.
