Meghan Markle’s Stunning Butterfly Earrings Are A Sweet Tribute To Princess Diana

Meghan Markle is one of the best-dressed royals, and the Duchess has an extensive jewellery collection passed down from her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana. One of the most beautiful pieces to surface recently? Diana’s famous butterfly earrings

These delicate earrings, made of yellow gold with pavé diamonds and blue gems, were first spotted on Princess Diana during a visit to British Columbia in 1986. The late Princess wore them with a matching choker, a navy Catherine Walker suit, and a Graham Smith hat.

While visiting Colegia La Giralda school in the Columbian capital of Bogotá the Duchesses’ sparkling lobes caught the attention of royal watchers and jewellery fans. The delicate sparkling earrings perfectly complement the Duchesses’ sleek and simple look: slim black pants and a white button-up, Chanel flats, and a ballet bun. But they were also a thoughtful tribute to the late Princess.

Princess Diana was a kindergarten teacher before marrying Prince Charles and assuming her royal duties. She had a deep fondness for children all her life—her memorial statue at Kensington Palace depicts her standing with three children. So, Markle’s decision to wear the butterfly earrings while on a royal visit to a school seems like an exceptionally sentimental tribute.

It’s not the first time the Duchess has used these butterfly earrings to mark special moments in her life. During her royal tour of Australia in 2018, Markle was seen sporting the earrings frequently. The Duchess received the earrings as a gift from Prince Harry, and she wore them following the announcement that the couple would be expecting their first child.

Meghan Markle’s Princess of Wales Jewellery Collection

Like Princess Kate Middleton, Markle has been gifted several of Princess Diana’s jewellery pieces and heirlooms and has sported them throughout her time as a royal. Throughout her trip to Columbia, she wore the late Princess’s Cartier necklace. Over the years, she has also been seen wearing Diana’s diamond tennis bracelet and wore the Princess’s aquamarine ring on her own wedding day. The late Queen Elizabeth gifted Markle a pair of Diana’s pearl earrings when she and Markle attended their first public engagement together in 2018. And, of course, Prince Harry used two diamonds from his mother’s collection in his design for Markle’s engagement ring. The Duchess has even been seen carrying her late mother-in-law’s Lady Dior handbag, a purse named after the Princess of Wales.
