Almost 30 million viewers tuned in to watch her tie the knot with Prince Harry - but her first wedding was a very different affair. Meghan Markle claims she didn't know much about Harry or the royal family when she married long-term partner Trevor Engelson in September 2011.
The pair exchanged their vows on a sun-drenched beach in Jamaica surrounded by their close friends and family before starting their four-day celebration party at the Jamaica Inn resort near Ocho Rios. American film producer Trevor, who is most famous for Robert Pattinson's 2010 romance movie Remember Me, met the now Duchess of Sussex in a West Hollywood bar in 2004. They started dating just months later, with Trevor popping the question in 2010.
Their wedding came five months after William and Kate, Prince and Princess of Wales, married at Westminster Abbey in London, England.
But it has been suggested the dress Meghan wore when walking down the aisle to Trevor shared a striking resemblance to Kate's second wedding gown that only 300 people got to see.
Fan account @meghanmarkleupdates has been sharing old pictures of the Duchess of Sussex on Instagram - with some resurfacing in recent weeks.
While some users pointed out how both dresses have a sparkly band around the waist, others argued all wedding dresses have their similarities.
One social media user said: "Her wedding dress from her previous marriage looks remarkably similar to Kate’s second wedding dress, complete with the bejewelled sash. And yes, Kate got married before Meghan did."
However, another user said: "This is nonsense. That isn't anything like Catherine's classy reception gown."
Meghan's marriage with Trevor ended in August 2013 with a no-fault divorce, citing "irreconcilable differences".
She met Harry three years later, in July 2016, after she caught the prince's eye on Instagram.
When their relationship was in its infancy, she implemented a two-week dating rule so she could get to know Prince Harry before the world found out about the spark between them.
The Duchess of Sussex shared her relationship rule on their Netflix documentary, Harry & Meghan, with the prince explaining: "We had to get to know each other before the rest of the world and the media joined it."
The couple spent a week camping in the wilderness before Meghan set out her terms to Prince Harry, making sure her future husband agreed to them before packing up her belongings and flying back home
Harry said: "She had a two week rule. We had to see each other in or around two weeks. I said 'how is that even possible with the stuff that I’m doing? I'm not going to be able to travel to see you that much'."
In an attempt to make things work around his other commitments, Meghan flew to England and stayed on the grounds of Kensington Palace to go for walks around Frogmore.
But while she was getting to know Harry on a personal level, she carried out her own 'research' on him, checking his social media feeds for clues about his interests.
She said: "When people say did you Google him? No, that’s your homework. I asked if I could see his feed.
"Let me see what they're about in their feed, not what someone else says about them. That to me was the best barometer."
However this wasn't the only time Meghan stepped up to give their relationship its best shot, as she boldly asked him out on a second date shortly after their first.
She said: "I called him that evening and said 'Look I'm leaving the day after tomorrow, do you want to grab dinner tomorrow night?' I'm sure he thought it was so forward and American."
But it turns out Harry had his own set of rules when it came to his future girlfriend - but he refused to reveal what this included when asked.
Meghan said: "He had a list apparently of what he was looking for - an extensive list."
In response, Harry added: "I'm not showing you the list. Nice try. This is the list", pointing to Meghan.
