Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been handed another huge business blunder as records show that US officials have rebutted their application to trademark Archetypes.
The couple submitted an application to get exclusive rights to 'Archetypes' - the name of their podcast series -but the US Patent and Trademark Office has rejected their claims on the basis of a "likelihood of confusion" with an existing brand.
It follows the news that their multi-million-pound deal with Spotify ended on June 16.
The royal couple sought to claim rights to Archetypes in areas such as "downloadable audio recordings and podcasts" and in anything that fell into the category of "cultural treatment of women and stereotypes facing women".
Despite their best efforts, the application was refused thanks to an existing trademark by Arizonian firm Archetypes LLC, which looked for exclusive use in 2015 for a series of books and articles about "nutrition, fitness, sexuality, psychological self-improvement" and more reports the Express.
The Duke and Duchess's lawyer Majorie Witter Norman, from the LA-based firm Willkie, Farr & Gallagher, has now applied for an extra three months to finesse the application, the Daily Mail reports.
Official records suggest that the couple both failed to sign their own application to the regulatory body.
The 41-year-old is thought to have made the error when attempting to reactivate 'The Tig' trademark - the stagnant lifestyle blog which she ran for three years before marrying the Prince.
Last week, Spotify released a joint statement with Meghan and Harry announcing their plans to part ways.
The couple had signed an £18million deal with Spotify at the end of 2020, just a few months after stepping down as senior working royals.
It means the streaming giant will not be renewing Meghan's podcast 'Archetypes' for a second series.
The statement read that they had "mutually agreed" to end the deal and were "proud of the series we made together".
Despite the end of the Spotify deal, the couple still have some deals under their belt.
The couple signed a multi-million-poumd deal with Netflix in 2020, and also one with Penguin Random House.
The couple's Netflix docuseries 'Harry and Meghan' was released last December, while Harry's memoir being published in January 2023.
