Meghan Markle has opened up about how she "had a judgement" about Paris Hilton before interviewing her, admitting she was "envious" the hotel heiress had grown up "pretty".
Paris, 41, recently joined the Duchess of Sussex on her Archetypes podcast to discuss the labels "bimbo" and "dumb blonde". During the chat, Paris said she had created a persona for herself when she was younger to act as a "mask".
41-year-old Meghan then revealed she had felt "objectified" during her stint as a briefcase girl on Deal or No Deal.
Now, she has revealed she went into the interview with negative opinions and said she was "embarrassed" to have come from "a place of judgement".
"I was embarrassed to admit it, but I’ve had a judgment about her that’s based on everything I’ve seen, and I don’t like to come from a place of judgment.
"But I also didn't grow up pretty," Meghan said in a interview with Variety.
Clarifying what she meant, the Suits actress added: "I grew up as the smart one.
"So much of what I ended up thinking about, when I thought about Paris, was envy and judgment — two of the most dangerous things.
"But then you hear about her trauma and her life and her buying into this persona."
Meghan said she wanted her interview with Paris to provide a "humanisation" of her and said hoped listeners went away thinking about the person behind the mask.
During the interview, Paris said she had crafted her famous "baby voice" and "dumb blonde" façade as a way of protecting herself.
"When you're on TV it's not the same – my voice, everything just changes like I have naturally a very low voice. But then on the show it's gets gets very high," she said.
Paris added: "It was a reaction to having a mask to protect myself. So it could be like they're not talking about me, they're talking about this character that I created.
"It kind of helped the pain of the media just constantly being mean and very vicious and cruel to me for so long.
"That character shielded me from ever really having to feel anything."
