Meghan and Harry Netflix documentary contradicts duke's memoir, report claims

Information in the Duke of Sussex's upcoming memoir reportedly contradicts some of what has been said in a Netflix documentary he has made with his wife. Both are expected to be released in the coming months.

The Sunday Times cites a report from the Page Six column of the New York Post, which claims the Netflix filmmakers are confused by some of the comments Harry has made. The report claims that the account the duke gives in his book of some things differs from what he and Meghan have said on film.

A senior Netflix source was quoted in Page Six saying: "“A lot in the show contradicted what Harry has written, so that was an issue. Then Harry and Meghan made significant requests [to filmmakers] to walk back content they themselves have provided, for their own project."

It is unclear when either project will be released. It is currently being edited and the couple reportedly want this to continue into next year.

However, bosses at Netflix are believed to have insisted it should be available to stream following the launch of series five of The Crown, which is due to be released on November 5. The Page Six report says that Netflix has stood its ground and the series will be broadcast early in December.

The series is directed by Liz Garbus, whose previous work includes the 2015 biographical documentary film about the singer Nina Simone entitled What Happened, Miss Simone? The precise nature of the series remains shrouded in secret.

Meghan, when questioned about it during an interview with The Cut, only said that Ms Garbus was "incredible". She also told the interviewer that there was a distinction to be made between a historical documentary and a reality docuseries. She said: “The piece of my life I haven’t been able to share, that people haven’t been able to see, is our love story."

It is thought that the Sussexes, who sensationally quit the royal family in 2020, talk in great detail throughout the series about other members of the monarchy such as the Prince and Princess of Wales, King Charles and the Queen Consort, Camilla. But they now reportedly want to make changes.

The project needs to conclude soon because the process of editing and translating the documentary into other language will take Netflix weeks to complete. A source from the streaming giant told Page Six: "Netflix needs a couple of months to do all of the formatting and dubbing, subtitling and audio — all of that stuff that enables it to launch on the platform."

It was reported last week in The Sun that the couple want to amend Harry's memoir and the series because both are too critical of Charles and Camilla. It is not yet known when the book will be published. It was scheduled to be released this year but it is rumoured this could be pushed back.
