SHILLONG: One of the oldest educational institutions in the city, Laban Bengalee Boys’ Higher Secondary School, bagged the top two positions in the science stream in the Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC) Examination, 2022, results of which were declared on Thursday by the Meghalaya Board of Secondary Education (MBOSE).
The first and second positions in science stream were secured by Gyanesh Roy Bhowmik and Rishi Sarkar respectively of Laban Bengalee Boys’ Higher Secondary School, Shillong, East Khasi Hills district and the third place was taken by Chetna Bose of Don Bosco College (Higher Secondary Section), Tura, West Garo Hills district.
The first position in commerce stream was secured by Riya Kharpran of St Anthony’s Higher Secondary School, Shillong, second position by Emerene Kharpran of St Edmund’s Higher Secondary School, Shillong and third position by Keshav Agarwal of Don Bosco College (Higher Secondary Section), Tura.
Overall 71.62% of the candidates who had appeared for the HSSLC science examination were successful.
Of the successful cadidates, 1,036 got first division, 960 second division and 33 got third division.
On the other hand, 83.63% of the candidates were successful in the commerce stream, in which, of the successful candidates, 719 were placed in the first division, 801 in the second division and 82 in the third division.
All the eight candidates who appeared for the HSSLC examination in the vocational stream were successful, with two of them securing first division and six others placed in the second division.
Talking to mediapersons, a beaming principal of the Laban Bengalee Boys’ HS School, Rinku Bhattacharjee, said, “I am extremely happy and thrilled.”
Bhattacharjee further said that this sterling performance by her students would help others achieve good results in the examination next year.
Pointing out that it had been difficult and challenging for the students to pursue with their studies and teachers as well in imparting knowledge in the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic, during which physical classes could not be held, she said the students were not habituated with online classes, adding that the teachers took the trouble of meeting parents to explain to them about the courses.
“This digital transformation has made the teachers and also students work very hard,” Bhattacharjee said.
Meanwhile, chief minister Conrad K Sangma has congratulated the toppers and all other meritorious students who passed the HSSLC (science, commerce and vocational streams) examinations.
“May you shine in all your endeavours,” the CM tweeted, addressing the successful HSSLC examinees.
