Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly are said to be on a break as the relationship continues to hit sticking points.
Actress Megan, 36, and her musician beau, 32, are engaged but are said to be going through a sticky patch of late.
However, despite the reports, duo are said to be still in contact with each other as they try to work out their differences.
It had been reported that the pair believed they needed a "significant breakthrough" if they were to go through with their big day and tie the knot.
And now, a source close to them as described the couple as being "very hot and cold".
Speaking to US Weekly, the insider said: "Megan and MGK are currently on a break but are still in contact. They are very hot and cold."
It comes after claims the duo have "stalled wedding planning" as they focus their attention on healing their fractured relationship.
A source told the same publication: "They have stalled wedding planning to work on their issues. Their relationship is pretty volatile at the moment.
"They are currently off, but still texting each other."
The Mirror has contacted representatives of the pair for a comment.
Machine Gun Kelly, whose real name is Colson Baker, proposed to the Transformers star in January last year. At the time, reports suggested the ring was made of thorns so she couldn't remove it.
He said he designed it himself, telling Vogue : "It’s a thoroughbred Colombian emerald, with no treatment. It was just carved into the teardrop, straight out of the mine."
The rocker got down on one knee for the special question in a romantic proposal that culminated in the couple drinking each other’s blood to celebrate. They have been dating since May 2020.
Megan was recently spotted partying without the ring on, sending rumours into overdrive that the pair were splitting.
A source told US Weekly on Wednesday: "[Megan] isn't sure where things stand with Colson, and it's complicated at the moment. They’re still working on their relationship because the love they had was the real deal."
