Mega Chesnaught Emerges as a Secret Weapon in 'Pokémon Legends: Z-A' Online Battles

Pokémon: Legends Z-A's first season has surprised a lot of fans, but some did not manage to get Greninjite. Fortunately, the second season will give them the past reward easily, but the more rewarding one is the Delphoxite, a Mega Evolution stone for Delphox, a Gen VI starter. With the Mega Dimension DLC coming, fans are grinding for Mega Shards, gold, and more to progress on the story further.

For competitive gamers, going online is the best thing to do right now. However, with the usage of Kalos legendaries right now, some players are using the worst Kalos starter to collect points: Chesnaught.

Gen 6 Starters Release in Phased Seasons

For the Gen 6 starters, the Mega Evolutions have been doled out one per season online thus far: Greninjite in Season 1, Delphoxite in Season 2, and Chesnaughtite will arrive in Season 3.

Mega Greninja has been available since launch, Mega Delphox just went live 10 days ago, and Mega Chesnaught will go live in a few weeks. Originally considered to be one of the weaker Gen 6 starters, it appears that Mega Chesnaught is actually one of the most dominant choices in battles.

Why Mega Chesnaught Is a Game-Changer

According to GameRant, Mega Chesnaught possesses high defensive statistics: 137 Attack, 172 Defense, and 115 Special Defense, letting it survive the attacks of strong Pokémon like Xerneas. It can increase its statistics with moves like Iron Defense and Swords Dance, which make it a tough wall that can deal serious damage as well. Its coverage options include:

  • Rock Slide: One-hit-KO potential against Charizard and Mega Charizard Y
  • Earthquake/Dig: Strong against Steel- and Fire-types, notably Metagross and Excadrill
  • Poison Jab/Iron Head: High damage potential against Xerneas
  • Hammer/Close Combat: Strong STAB options
  • Dragon Claw/Thunder Punch: Strong counters to Dragon- and Flying-types.

Additionally, moves like Curse allow Mega Chesnaught to trade Speed for boosted Attack and Defense, making it even tougher in online battles. Brick Break can remove Light Screen or Reflect from opponents, further enhancing its offensive capabilities.

Mega Chesnaught's Stat Boosts Make It a New Meta Pick

Mega Chesnaught comes with a +30 Attack, +50 Defense, and +40 Special Defense compared to its standard form while losing 20 Speed. Speed is less critical in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, so that is a highly favorable trade-off. One can make Mega Chesnaught versatile with either a Curse-boosting defensive setup or a fully offensive four-move setup with a decent EV distribution.

As for Redditors, this could be the redemption arc that Chesnaught has been seeking for a long time.
