How Ryder Williams rescued a drowning boy from dangerous surf
The rescue unfolded on July 25 at Seabright State Beach, where hazardous ocean conditions had developed due to swells generated by Hurricanes Fausto and Genevieve. Ryder Williams spotted a 10-year-old boy losing his footing in the surf before being pulled farther into the water by powerful waves. Without hesitation, the teenage lifeguard radioed for backup and entered the ocean, swimming towards the struggling child as waves measuring between 8 and 10 feet crashed around them.
After reaching the boy, Williams held him securely while repeatedly being battered by the surf. Rescue footage later showed the teenager diving beneath some of the larger waves while maintaining his grip on the child, preventing them from being separated until additional help arrived.
