There are only a few specialized underwater fashion photographers in India. Most of those who we do see making a buzz on the internet, are wedding photographers doing underwater pre-wedding shoots. Since it is too expensive and challenging an affair for a lot of designers and brands to pull off an underwater fashion shoot, the demand for these kinds of photographers is also less in our country. But with many labels upping the ante and creating out-of-the-box content, such shoots are going to be quotidian. New York-based photographer Kriti Bisaria is excelling in this medium of underwater fashion photography. In 2014, Kriti found herself on the sunny Californian shores where she became fascinated with the idea of combining high fashion with the sinuous fluid movements of swimmers and divers, she saw on the beaches of Santa Barbara, California. After undergoing a competitive training and qualification process for a scuba certification by the Profession Association of Diving Instructors, Kriti studied under renowned underwater photographers Elena Kalis at the Palm Springs Photo Festival and Ralph Clevenger of the Brooks Institute. She recently showcased her work at an exhibition in New Delhi. We had a long chat with the photographer on how she decided to get into underwater fashion photography and who inspires her the most when it comes to this genre. Read on.
