Meath legend Anthony Moyles gives rare insight on how Andy McEntee treated players while manager

Meath legend Anthony Moyles has opened up on how Andy McEntee treated his players while manager of the Royals.

McEntee stepped down as Meath boss on Monday after a poor 2022 season that ended in the Royals crashing out to Clare in the qualifiers.

Meath finished mid table in Division Two and also put in a poor performance against Dublin in their Leinster semi-final clash.

But McEntee's reign will best be remembered with Meath achieving promotion to Division One in 2019 as well as a Super Eights appearance that year.

And Meath legend Anthony Moyles spoke glowingly of his friend while appearing on Tuesday's Off The Ball.

Moyle's did not hold back about the demands of an intercounty manager and said of the situation: "Inter-county management is not for the faint hearted. It is an unbelievable task. It's a seven day, 24/7 job. That is what it is nowadays.

"Doing the organising of the sessions, the video sessions, the analysis."

And Moyle's gave a rare insight on how McEntee treated his players and how he would help them with opportunities outside of the game.

He said: "I know Andy has put in an enormous amount of work and an enormous amount of commitment into that team both on and off the field.

"He's very good with fellas off the pitches helping them out with work and different things and introducing them to people and getting things sorted for them.

"And that's what it is, it's an all encompassing role. It's not just you go out there for an hour and a half, two hours and away with you. It is an unbelievable role and it puts your life on hold.

"Meath have a body of work to do to get the next person in because it's going to be a very important appointment."
