Mean Tweetshop: Cadbury’s sells plant-based chocolate wrapped in anti-vegan tweets

A Cadbury’s plant-based sweetshop store has opened in London to tackle negative attitudes and feed vegan cravings.

For some it’s difficult to quit meat and dairy foods altogether – especially with chocolate noted as the item missed the most by vegans, according to a Veganuary survey.

To help the record number of vegans, including 125,000 UK Veganuary sign-ups last year, Cadbury has opened a “Mean Tweetshop” in Soho to celebrate their Cadbury Plant Bars.

From March 22 to March 27 the Soho pop-up will tackle negative attitudes with bars emblazoned with negative comments for people to, quite literally, eat their words.

One tweet printed on a Plant Bar said: “Try vegan chocolate. It’s so horrible, you won’t want a second piece.”

Veganism has grown in popularity amongst Britons with YouGov revealing that over a third of people in the UK are now interested in becoming vegan.

This year saw several major food chains introduce vegan menu options in the UK, including KFC and McDonalds.

Ericka Durgahee, Marketing Manager at The Vegan Society said: “With 2022 well on its way, it’s fair to say that the image of veganism is undergoing the most radical change in its history.

“It’s no longer portrayed as an unusual lifestyle, it’s easy and accessible and many people now incorporate vegan options in their everyday choices.”
