Mean Girls star Jonathan Bennett is raising awareness of male breast cancer and encouraging others to go for a mammogram.
The actor, who is best known for playing Aaron Samuels in the hit film, took to Instagram on Tuesday to document himself getting a breast examination following his husband's cancer scare a few years ago.
Jonathan filmed himself as he went to the Shin Imaging Centre in Los Angeles.
The clip showed the 41-year-old having the tissue above each pec squeezed by a machine to produce X-ray images. A radiologist then analysed the images to check for any abnormalities.
Alongside the video, Jonathan wrote: "October is #breastcancerawarenessmonth and I’m showing you what getting a mammogram looks like for me.
"After my husband had a scare a few years ago and with cancer running in both of our families screenings are important to us. Talk to your doctor about what’s right for you."
The film star also encouraged his followers to help raise money to provide essential services for breast cancer patients.
Jonathan's fans and famous friends praised him for the informative post.
His Mean Girls co-star Daniel Franzese said: "Proud of you!"
Melissa Joan Hart commented: "Amazing! Thanks for posting this for us ladies who don't like to go topless on insta and the millions that have been told it's painful. Also ..... CUPCAKES!"
Former Today host Katie Couric, who recently went public with her own breast cancer diagnosis, wrote: "Go @jonathandbennett!!" and added a red heart emoji.
Real Housewives of Atlanta star Kandi Burruss added: " That’s awesome! I’ve never seen a male breast exam."
A mammogram is currently the best method to detect breast cancer early, according to the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention.
Catching breast cancer early means it's easier to treat.
In fact, Cancer.org says "mammography is often more accurate in men than women, since men do not have dense breasts or other common breast changes that might interfere with the test."
