John McGinn has hailed Oli McBurnie for an "outstanding" performance despite Scotland's defeat to Switzerland.
Sebastien Pocognoli's Hampden bow was ruined by a 3-0 loss following an early red card for Jack Hendry.
The centre-back was ordered off and Switzerland took the lead from the resulting free-kick within the first 15 minutes in a nightmare start for Scotland.
However, McGinn insists McBurnie's display is one major positive despite the scoreline.
On BBC Scotland, he said: "I thought Oli was outstanding.
"He has had a lot of criticism in a Scotland shirt because, as a striker, you are judged by goals
"But tonight it was an absolute thankless task for him.
"He gave absolutely everything, fought for us, held the ball up well.
"The referee was giving him nothing but I thought the new players came in, and it's not always easy when you go down to 10, it's a test of character.
"It's a huge learning curve for us."
