McDonald's new Mighty McMuffin is a mess but one thing saves it - review

Every now and again, only a McDonald's breakfast will hit the spot.

The craving arose just a day after the chain unveiled a new supersized version of one of its favourites. McDonald's has given its McMuffin a "mighty" makeover.

A new supersized version of the fan favourite sees it filled with sausage, egg, bacon, cheese and either ketchup or brown sauce. It sounds amazing, and it seemed only right that I ordered it.

The Mighty McMuffin costs £3.99 on its own, or £5.59 to make it a meal. I added a coffee, and a side of potato waffles, another recent addition to the McDonald's menu.

When I opened the McMuffin, which I got with ketchup, it looked like a crime scene. The sauce was everywhere and the muffin was extremely squashed.

But we all know McDonald's food never looks the same as it does in the pictures, so I didn't dwell on this for too long and moved on to the taste test. The first bite was too much.

There's an awful lot going on, and everything is competing with the other components to the point where you can't taste much of anything at all. The muffin was quite soggy, too, probably because of the sheer amount of ketchup.

I wasn't impressed, until I opened my mini potato waffles, that is. A smaller, crispier version of the side dish we know and love, these were fantastic.

It's a shame you only get three as I'd have easily eaten more, rather than finish my McMuffin - which I'm sorry to say there was nothing "mighty" about.
