McDonald's launches loyalty scheme allowing you to earn free food and drinks

McDonald’s is launching its first ever rewards scheme, giving customers the chance to collect points for free menu items, or donate them to charities including Children in Need, FareShare and Ronald McDonald House Charities. After a successful pilot launch in the North West of England earlier this year, MyMcDonald’s Rewards will be available for customers to sign up to from July 20 via the McDonald’s App, where they will earn 100 points for every £1 they spend.

Every penny spent equates to 1 point and there are rewards available for customers to treat themselves to. Customers will be able to start earning and redeeming their points from July 20.

Collecting 1,500 points will allow customers to choose between menu items including small Fries, Hash Browns or a Side Salad. With 2,500 points, a Double Cheeseburger or Vegetable Deluxe is on the cards. Finally, with 4,000 points, choose between menu favourites like 6 Chicken McNuggets or a Big Mac.

There is also an option for customers to donate the cash equivalent of their points to BBC Children in Need, FareShare and Ronald McDonald House Charities to support the company’s commitment to funding and supporting youth work, alongside reducing food poverty and waste in the UK. Points are converted to a cash donation, with 1,500 points translating to £1.50, 2,500 points becoming £2.50 and 4,000 points seeing the charity partner land a donation of £4.

Customers who are opted in to MyMcDonald’s Rewards and order and pay through the McDonald’s App will automatically earn points on their order – this includes McDelivery when ordered via the app. Alternatively, customers can get a one-time code, which is available in the ‘code’ section of the app at the start of their order at Drive-Thru, Kiosk or Counter to earn points on their order.

Customers can start earning points on all orders by downloading and signing up to the McDonald’s App via Google Play or the Apple App Store here.

Michelle Graham-Clare, Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, McDonald’s UK and Ireland said: “We’re incredibly excited to launch the MyMcDonald’s Rewards scheme in the UK. As well as rewarding our customers with our iconic menu items, we’re delighted to give customers the option of donating points to our brilliant charity partners , which we know will make an incredible difference to the lives of many thousands of young people and families across the country. We were delighted with the response from customers during our recent trial and I am so pleased we’re able to launch nationwide today.”

When 1,500 points have been collected, customers can choose between the following items:

  • Small Fries,
  • Mini McFlurry
  • Regular McCafe
  • Side Salad
  • Hashbrown
  • £1.50 donation to charity

When 2,500 points have been collected, customers can redeem one of the following:

  • Double Cheeseburger
  • Bacon Mayo Chicken
  • Vegetable Deluxe
  • Cheesy Bacon Flatbread
  • Medium Fries
  • £2.50 donation to charity

When customers have collected 4,000 points, the following items can be redeemed:

  • 6 Chicken McNuggets
  • Big Mac
  • McChicken Sandwich
  • Double Sausage and Egg McMuffin
  • Premium Salad
  • £4 donation to charity

McCafe stamps have moved to MyMcDonald’s Rewards. Any unredeemed free McCafe drinks in the Offers & Rewards section of the app and any existing stamps will be converted to 300 MyMcDonald’s Rewards points when customers opt-in to MyMcDonald’s Rewards. At launch, customers will be able to redeem double points on any McCafe purchase.
