McDonald's launch limited edition Chicken Big Mac - but was it worth the wait?

There's a new Big Mac in town - and it's dividing opinion.

A limited edition Chicken Big Mac went on sale on Wednesday (February 2) bringing an "exciting twist" to McDonald's iconic signature burger - and we were amongst the first to try it when it was rolled out to restaurants today.

The saying goes 'If it ain't broken, don't fix it' so how would a chicken version of one of the fast food chain's best-selling items compare?

Social media was divided with some McDonald's fans saying it was "God tier" while others found it underwhelming.

One said: "Not great, keep your expectations low!"

For others the verdict was "meh" and "a waste of a product in McDonald's".

"They should've done an all day breakfast like most countries, or even the cheesy bacon fries or the chicken wings," one person said.

It's quite a handful - or at least it is for my small hands - with two chicken breast patties in the triple-layered bun and it falls apart as I try to tuck in.

Expect to get messy. With the same elements as a Big Mac - cheese, lettuce, pickles and burger sauce - it has that all-familiar taste but what sets it apart is the crispness of the chicken coating when you bite into it.

It's like a cross between a Big Mac, McChicken sandwich and chicken nuggets all rolled into one and is pretty much what you'd expect.

There's nothing offensive but there's no great surprises either.

It might go down well with Team McDonald's fans who don't want to eat red meat yet still want the Big Mac taste but, for me personally, it's not a 'winner, winner chicken dinner'.

I'd rather have the beefy taste of the original Big Mac or the spicy hit of a rival KFC Zinger burger.

And the Chicken Big Mac is more expensive, costing 50p more than the original Big Mac, as it is priced at £4.09 for an individual burger or £5.59 for a meal (store prices may vary).

The much-hyped arrival of the new limited-edition burger comes after it was successfully trialled in Australia and - according to McDonald's - it has become one their most requested menu items.

However, it will only be on the menu in the UK until March 15 or until stocks last.
