McDonald's is releasing Happy Meals for adults - complete with classic character toy

McDonald's is launching a Happy Meal for adults, complete with a classic character toy, the fast food giant has announced.

The initiative, available for a limited time only in US restaurants, is starting on October 3.

Maccies is collaborating with Cactus Plant Flea Market to sell the new meals.

Customers can get a Happy Meal with a Big Mac or 10 Chicken McNuggets, alongside fries, a drink and a small toy.

The toys are redesigned versions of some of McDonald's most famous mascots, including Grimace, Hamburglar and Birdie.

Cactus Plant Flea Market fans can also win merchandise by participating in sweepstakes on the McDonald's app.

It is not clear how much Happy Meals for adults will cost.

The offer - giving fast food fans a change to revive their childhood memories - will be available until October 30.

McDonald's told The Mirror there are no plans to launch Happy Meals for adults in the UK.

Tariq Hassan, McDonald's USA Chief Marketing and Customer Experience Officer, said in a statement: "We're taking one of the most nostalgic McDonald's experiences and literally repackaging it in a new way that's hyper-relevant for our adult fans.

"I can't wait to give fans a unique piece of art and culture as we dive headfirst into the dynamic world of Cactus Plant Flea Market together next week.

"With menu favorites like the Big Mac and McNuggets at the center of this collab, this is another way we're reigniting a new generation’s love for our food and the brand."

It comes after McDonald's wrote on its Facebook page earlier this month: "One day you ordered a Happy Meal for the last time and you didn't even know it."

A person commented: "I don't need this kind of negativity in my life."

Another added: "I'm 52 and I haven’t ordered my last one yet."

One more person wrote: "I'm gonna go order one today just to undo this violence."

This week, an animal shelter has gone viral online for treating its rescue dogs to a very special dinner - McDonald's double cheeseburgers.

The abandoned and unwanted pooches were captured on camera enjoying a one-off treat of tasty human food.

Some pups appeared to savour their beef burgers, while others gobbed the fast food down in one big mouthful - all with excitable "crazy eyes".

The Humane Society of Lebanon County, in Pennsylvania, US, has racked up more than 89,000 shares on its Facebook post showing dozens of homeless dogs tucking into McDonald's.
