McDonald's Ireland to hike prices of popular menu items including cheeseburger

McDonald's Ireland has confirmed that a selection of popular menu items are increasing in price, including the cheeseburger which will now cost €1.70, up from €1.50.

The fast food chain explained that its suppliers are "feeling the impact of rising inflation".

As well as the cheeseburger, other menu items which will increase in price include breakfast meals, main meals, large coffees, McFlurrys, the Chicken Mayo, the McNuggets share box and some Go Large options.

Other products will remain unaffected such as McDonald's wraps and salad range. Prices are also set by each franchise and vary from restaurant to restaurant.

McDonald's UK & Ireland chief executive officer Alistair Macrow said in a statement: "Although we’re seeing increasing costs, we are committed to developing and rewarding our people, supporting our suppliers and the 25,000 British and Irish farmers we work with and continuing to help invest in community programmes up and down the country.

"Since we opened in Ireland in 1977, we have committed to offering great tasting food at affordable prices, and that commitment will not change.

"But, today’s pressures mean, like many, we are having to make some tough choices about our prices."

He continues: "This summer, our restaurants will be increasing prices on a number of menu items which have been impacted most by inflation.

"From today, we’ll be increasing the price of our cheeseburger for the first time in over 14 years, taking it from €1.50 to €1.70.

"Some prices remain unaffected, and some will continue to vary across our restaurants. We understand that any price increases are not good news, but we have delayed and minimised these changes for as long as we could.

"We will continue to listen to what you want from us and work tirelessly to find solutions to today’s cost challenges affecting our business"
