McDonald's fans spot 'amazing' reusable packaging design and beg for it to launch in UK

Foodies across the globe can agree that McDonald's is a firm favourite when you fancy a quick and easy treat. However, the fast-food chain has taken a step further by introducing a new retro-looking reusable packaging that fans are raving about.

After spotting the new packaging on his travels in France, a man admitted to "obsessing" over the new design and shared a quick snap of it on Twitter. Juan Buis - who boasts more than 20,000 followers on the app - has raked in responses to his tweet.

Captioning the post, Juan wrote: "Absolutely *loving* the design of this reusable packaging that's being introduced at McDonald's France."

The photo featured the chain's iconic red logo colouring, but the yellow of the store's 'M' was nowhere to be seen.

However, there was a bigger twist than missing colours - the new packing is reusable.

Juan's chips were placed in reusable red holders and were accompanied by a smaller version for the potato wedges. Alongside his meal, the drinks were also in reusable glasses.

And it turns out, it's not the only reusable items the store has introduced as Juan was stunned when he ordered a happy meal.

Sharing a second photo, he penned: "Turns out there's a reusable happy meal and... I'm obsessed."

Since sharing, the viral post has raked in over 380,000 likes and it's continuing to rocket in engagement online.

Rushing to the comments, thousands of foodies were in agreement over the niche packaging and were keen to share their excitement in a quick tweet.

A customer - who has used the new packaging first-hand - shared a quick snap alongside the message: "You can find reusable packaging at a few McDonalds in France, I was surprised when I first saw it."

"KFC Thailand has been doing this for years too! It was such an interesting experience," a second user wrote.

It seems as if the chain doesn't just stop as chip holders and plastic cups as they also bring out a new wave of packaging come the colder months.

A Twitter user penned: "My favourite thing about A&W is the gigantic pre-frosted beer mugs and baskets that they use."

One gushing user noticed a different detail completely as they shared their shocks to the food in the comment section.

One person explained: "POTATO WEDGES?!?!?"

A user commented "You guys don't have wedges? There are so good and we have a special sauce for it. Soooo good."

Commenting on the reusable packaging, a McDonald's spokesperson told the Mirror: "Improving the sustainability of our packaging and moving toward a circular economy are top priorities for McDonald's. In some parts of Europe, McDonald's restaurants are testing reusable packaging in preparation for imminent legislation that mandates reusables in foodservice.

"We are using those tests to better understand the environmental and economic impacts of these new systems and to evaluate the effectiveness of reusable solutions both operationally in our restaurants and from a customer perspective. We believe it's critical to identify the right solutions – including recycling, reduction and recovery – that maintain food safety, quality and hygiene standards.

They continued: "In the UK and Ireland, we recently announced the roll-out of replacing all plastic cutlery, including our iconic McFlurry spoon, with a new sustainable, paper-based material. This follows previous moves to paper-based straws, McFlurry cups without plastic lids and salad boxes made from card. We are committed to reducing waste, and over 90% of the packaging we use in our UK restaurants comes from recycled or renewable sources, and can be recycled."
