McDonald's fans slam 'disappointing' new menu item as some feel 'ripped-off'

McDonald's fans have taken to social media to share their disappointment over one of the fast-food chain's newest additions to the menu.

The food giant recently announced it was shaking up the menu this summer with new items inspired by the Mediterranean. The menu was rolled out in two phases, with 'The Taste of Italy' menu landing in restaurants at the start of June.

And fans were treated to even more exotic delights when the Golden Arches officially rolled out a brand new 'Taste of Spain and Cyprus' menu on July 27.

Featured on the latest Spanish themed menu are four new delights for customers to try out - including the highly anticipated halloumi fries that went down a real treat.

But, while customers have been enjoying most of McDonald's summer offerings so far, one item on the latest menu seems to have gone down like a led balloon - the Spanish Fruit Punch.

The fruity drink costs £2.29 for a medium and £2.31 for a large, and is described as "a blend of citrus and red fruit drink base served over ice."

And while it definitely sounds refreshing for the warmer weather, quite a few fans have taken to Twitter after they were left "disappointed" at the new drink, with some saying it was "weak."

Taking to Twitter, one customer said: "Hey @McDonaldsUK I got a Spanish punch half empty and I was told that’s how it much you get in a large. biggest Mcripoff at McDonald’s".

Another fumed: "That McDonald’s Spanish fruit punch is weak, I want a refund."

For most customers, it seemed that the disappointment came from the drink containing more ice than it did juice, leading them to believe they had been ripped off.

"What a disappointment the Spanish fruit punch is. £4.50 for two drinks and all you get is two sips of it. 95% ice 5%juice sort it out", complained a third.

"I’ve never been more disappointed than a hour ago when I took 2 sips and had finished my Spanish Fruit Punch #McDonalds @McDonalds", commented a fourth.

However, not everyone was a critic, as some enthusiastic customers said that they hoped the drink "became a permanent fixture" on the menu.

A spokesperson for McDonald's told the Daily Record : "Customer satisfaction is a priority of ours and we’re always disappointed when we hear of any experiences that fall short of our customers’ expectations.

"However, the comments referenced make up a tiny proportion of the thousands of customers served each day, and overall feedback for the product has been overwhelmingly positive with people across the country enjoying the our Spanish Punch.

"We're always keen to hear from our customers though and would encourage people to get in touch with us through our Customer Services team."
