McDonald's fans convinced the brand is changing its logo after cryptic Instagram post

McDonald's fans have been left scratching their heads after the fast food giant changed its profile picture out of the blue and posted a cryptic animation on its feed.

McDonald's has changed its profile picture to a McDonald's logo – but not the one we all know and love. It isn't miles away from the old Golden Arches logo, but features a more wide and spaced out M than we are used to.

The fast food giant also posted an animation to its UK Instagram account, showing the spaced out logo bounce and then morph into the old, classic logo. There's also an audio clip playing which sounds like the start of Flo Rida's Turn Around (5,4,3,2,1).

The post featured a different version of the famous golden arches (@mcdonaldsuk/Instagram)

The post's caption features the emoji of two wide open eyes looking to the side. The emoji captured everything social media users were feeling – intrigue and confusion.

One Instagram user commented: "What? I'm so confused". Another asked: "What is this?".

Currently, one of the main theories is that McDonald's is changing its much-loved logo, with one person suggesting: "New logo?". Another added: "Great logo. 10/10."

Another theory is that McDonald's will announce the return of the Chicken Legend - if you listen very carefully, you might hear something resembling "chicken" in the audio clip.

One person said: "Let me guess? You're seeing sense and bringing back the Chicken Legend?"

Another agreed: "BRING CHICKEN LEGEND BACK."

McDonald's sparked controversy back in October 2022 when they axed the popular item from the menu when they brought in the McCrispy, BBQ Bacon Stack, Nacho Cheese Wedges, Twirl McFlurry and mini potato waffles.

A third theory, suggested by an Instagram user, is that McDonald's is bringing out a new theme tune, instead of the classic whistle. The social media user said: "New theme instead of the whistle?," followed by the side-eyes emoji.

The team at McDonald's haven't yet revealed what they are planning, but they told us to keep our eyes peeled for the reveal over the next few days.

The burger chain has recently introduced a number of tasty additions to the menu, including the new 'big flavour' wrap called The Spicy Sriracha Chicken One.

A new vegan offering called the Double McPlant burger has also joined the menu, featuring two Beyond Meat patties. The changes came into effect on January 4, when McDonald's stopped serving its Christmas menu.

McDonald's also brought back Cheesy Garlic Bites and Aero Peppermint McFlurry/ Aero Chocolate McFlurry.
