McDonald's employee 'told customer it's not their problem' after she complained about order

A mum who bought a McDonald's meal as a treat for her diabetic daughter says she was told it was "not their problem" when she complained about the order. The woman had wanted to surprise her seven-year-old who had lost her appetite recently due to feeling unwell.

She administered insulin to her daughter but was left gutted when the delivery arrived with just two small portions of chips instead of the kid's Happy Meal and other food. But disappointment turned to shock when she called the Cameron Toll restaurant in Edinburgh to complain.

After the woman told the employee about her daughter and the meal-mess up, a staff member reportedly told her: "It's not our problem." Speaking to Edinburgh Live, the mum said she was "completely and utterly sickened" by the response.

Her daughter had been excited as she loves the chicken nuggets. But when the order arrived, "lo and behold" there were only two packets of fries in the bag. She said: "My whole stomach sunk, I felt so bad for her.

"But the thing that got me the most was I had already administered her insulin for her time she was eating and to cover her meal she had to have the right amount of insulin, which this has now thrown completely off. As I don’t drive I phoned the restaurant to be told by the on duty manager that she doesn’t know what to tell me, she can only apologise and it’s not their problem - they didn’t know my daughter was a type 1 diabetic who has to have insulin."

She added: "How can it be so hard to read an order off a screen and put it in a bag correctly? Yes it’s frustrating at the best of times when items are wrong or missing but when it’s for a sick child and they have absolutely no care in the world that is just disgusting.

"I just wanted to bring some sort of awareness to the situation as they seemed not to really care and as a restaurant food standards should be held seriously. They seemed to not even care in the slightest."

McDonald's say they are investigating the incident. A spokeswoman said: “We are very sorry to hear about this customer’s experience.

"We take order accuracy very seriously and have a number of procedures in place to avoid inaccurate orders. We are disappointed that we fell short of these on this occasion. We can confirm the customer has been refunded by Just Eat."
